There were many who thought I was crazy to ride a motor bike from Darwin to Sydney, but I have got to say it was super fantastic! I had all sorts of conditions, 40+ temperatures, as well as freezing while going through Orange and Bathurst. Most of the time I fought dehydration but also had the challenge of rain, hail and fog, to keep me awake on the last couple of days. I rolled out my swag in a lot of interesting places and achieved my purpose of making time to rethink who I am and where I’m going.
In a movie I watched recently (The Scorpion King), the lead character very pointed says “Nobody dictates my future, I am the author of my destiny!” (or something like that) and he is right. I am who I am because of the choices I have made, but there are some things beyond my control! Yes, I AM posted and I have no say in that, but I can still choose my attitude to it! Recently I read that in one survey of 250,000 workers (over a wide range of categories) 80% were dissatisfied with their jobs. My father once admitted that he NEVER had a job that he enjoyed!
Maybe that is how you feel about your job or your next posting? What are you going to do about it? Think about this as a starting point?
Focus on your attitudes – choose to see the positives and not just the negatives!
Understand why you are where you are – accept responsibility and decide to change!
Try something new – get involved in a sport or hobby, do something outside of work?
Use what you have got – you have lots of gifts and abilities you have neglected!
Reassess your balance – make sure that you are not neglecting your family or yourself.
Expect the best – God has a plan for your life and will lead you IF you ask Him to!
That might take some quiet time on your own, and I’m still working on it, BUT it will pay off in the long term.
