As I come to the end of another busy week, I have lingering doubts about whether or not I have achieved anything. Yes, I have listened to lots of people, given some loans and even done some lecturing to students, but have those efforts been appreciated and will they amount to anything in the long term? I don’t know, but in the process I was reminded of the following poem:
People are often unreasonable, illogical and self-centred:
Love them anyway!
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish ulterior motives:
Be kind anyway!
If you are successful, you win some false friends and true enemies:
What you spend years building, they may destroy overnight:
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous and scornful:
Be joyous anyway!
The good you do today, they often forgot tomorrow:
Do good anyway!
Give the world the best you have, and it will never be enough:
Give the world the best you have got anyway!
You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God:
It was never between you and them anyway!
I don’t know what your last week has been like, but I hope that this will challenge you to keep loving, showing kindness, succeeding, building and giving your best ANYWAY – no matter what the response was in the past.
