Somebody asked me about a funeral I conducted and mentioned that there is no such thing as a good funeral! I initially agreed, but on reflection I think we can have good funerals IF we are properly prepared for them! Life is full of choices, and it is lived one day at a time.
The question is “Are the choices you are making today adding up to the life you have planned?” Don’t just see it as blind fate, choose to make your life what you want today!
It seems to me that Robert Frost had that sort of decision in mind when he wrote:
“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I…
I took the one less travelled by,
And that made all the difference.”
As I look at my own life, there have been times when I doubted, but also times when I took the risk and did the unexpected, embraced the hard option and went against the trend and I have never regretted it! The challenge is, are you living or just existing? Are you becoming who you want to be? Are you happy with your current priorities?
I think it was Winston Churchill who is attributed as saying:
“We make a living by what we get.
We make a life by what we give.”
So what are you prepared to give? Have you chosen the road less travelled? Have you found the right balance? What would people say about you at your funeral and would it be a good funeral ? A sobering thought for all of us!
